Eco Launderers, a division of Nemchem, have entered into a PPPI with the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health, for an on-site laundry facility at Parirenyatwa Hospital complex in Harare.
Jim Fletcher, Business Development Manager LLC Africa, spoke to Alex Chaumbwa, Laundry Manager, about this facility.
JIM: How long has the PPPI been operating?
ALEX: We commenced in early 2010 and to date have been very successful.
JIM: What do you put the success of the business down to?
ALEX: Three major factors, being our relationship with our client, commitment of our staff and reliability and quality of our equipment.
We chose Lead as our exclusive supplier of equipment and this has paid off.
JIM: What equipment do you have in the laundry?
ALEX: We currently run 5 x 55kg Girbau Washer Extractors, 10 x 35kg Speed Queen tumble dryers,
2 x 3 metre Girbau roller irons and 2 x Fiorenta laundry presses.
We process 350 000 pieces of laundry a month working seven days a week with a staff complement of 20.
JIM: Your wash quality is of an exceptionally high standard.
ALEX: We use automatic liquid dose detergents from Ecolab which has maintained our quality constantly.
JIM: Is back-up spares and service a problem in Zimbabwe?
ALEX: It has been problematic in the past from a spares availability perspective but we are very pleased Lead are appointing a service and spares distributor in Harare which will assist greatly in the future.
JIM: Eco Launderers plans for the future?
ALEX: We have a similar facility in Mutare and look forward to future growth in Zimbabwe and Africa.
JIM: Thank you Alex, a well run facility which showcases our equipment.
